About
During my Junior year in high school, I was infatuated with the human psyche. I developed a style I like to call “body deconstruction,” where I disassemble the human body to contort and manipulate it to my own liking in order to portray a certain emotion. To further the divisions of the body, I would set the parts off of the base, so there was a deeper separation than if it were just 2-Dimensional. The artists that inspired me most that year were Audrey Kawasaki and Salvador Dalí, whose ethereal and surreal style definitely inspired my work at that time.
My senior year developed differently, as I became influenced by the Astronomy class I was taking, which was evident in the earlier pieces of that year. I discovered the wonder media that is wood, which I became infatuated with due to the natural background and texture it provides. My work became less about the human psyche, and more about women’s issues, beauty standards, and body positivity. The subjects of my earlier work juxtaposed by my later work reveals a distinct shift in appearance.
I love to employ a wide variety of media when I work to ensure that the piece looks precisely as I wish for it to be. Some of the more distinctive media include pyrography, modeling paste, nail polish, lights, make up and even henna. Any medium that built texture was one that I wanted to explore.
I evolved as an artist through the duration of my IB experience from someone who was reserved into a person who is experimental and takes risks. I love the direction my art has taken, and aspire to grow continually even after the IB Program.
